CD Single Book Design
Students were given a plastic cd case. They worked in engineering groups and found the measurement for a CD sleeve folded, and unfolded. They created a custom template in MS Publisher and made a CD single sleeve for a song and band approved by the instructor. Students again focused on two elements and principles of design. There was an emphasis on text in this assignment. Students were requrired to include all necessary information such as band name, song, bar code, record label log, and lyrics. Some students included a band bio.
CD # 2 - Multi-Sheet Publication
This is our first, multi-page and multi-sheet publication. Students will create a paper template and plan their CD booklet design by creating places for lyrics, images, etc. This will be a two sheet, 8 page publication. Students are creating their own mix but it must have a theme (country hits, 80's dance party, basketball practice mix, highway music, etc).

Logo Design with a Twist...
Candy Bar Wrapper
This was another complex template! Students brought in a candybar of their choice with a paper wrapper. They measured the length adn width of the bar. They also needed to know the side thickness. We made a template in Adobe Photoshop. Students learned how to view rulers and work with guidelines and layers in Photoshop. Students were required to include all necessary packaging information such as net weight, ingredients, allergy and nutrition information, and more!
Students thought of a design for their t-shirt. The challenge was to then use this design, and modify it to fit in with another era. The students chose the 1950's , 60's, 70's or 1980's and researched the color, styles, fonts, movies, publications, etc. of that time. They worked with new tools in Photoshop to bring their design back in time.
